Moss forming in lawn areas

Written by: Nige Anderson on May 2, 2026

Moss appearing in a lawn is less a problem and more a signal. It usually points to a combination of shade, moisture retention and compacted soil.

Rather than treating the moss directly, it’s more useful to look at the underlying conditions. Without changing those, it will return.

These notes are based on general observations from working in gardens. Every site is different, so individual conditions should always be considered.
