Autumn transition in the garden

Written by: Nige Anderson on May 2, 2026

At this point in the season, gardens begin to shift from active growth into a slower, more settled phase. Days remain warm, but the intensity has eased.

It’s a good time to observe rather than act — to see what has performed well and what hasn’t before making changes.

A time to also consider improvements to your garden.

These notes are based on general observations from working in gardens. Every site is different, so individual conditions should always be considered.
