Photinia hedge with uneven growth

Written by: Nige Anderson on March 2, 2026

Photinia hedges often show uneven performance across a run, with some sections thriving and others struggling.

This is usually linked to small changes in soil, drainage or exposure rather than the plants themselves. Identifying these variations is key before attempting to replace or heavily prune.

These notes are based on general observations from working in gardens. Every site is different, so individual conditions should always be considered.
